Hehe... Tactics blows MQ out of the water.
About the old games: the rereleases have updated graphics, so you can't even complain about that. However, nothing beats the 8-bit graphics of the original Final Fantasy

:P Well Long Live CLASSICS! I don't think I would want to make a tread on it. Even though it might be "popular" to the few old schoolers... hah!

Yea I know! It's just when new games with nice 3D Rendering Graphics come out, people seem to forget how those started, it was the classics!
Oh well, none the less FF rules!

Same here, I don't own a GameCube/PS anymore. I play my SNES games on my PC since my power cord doesn't work for my SNES to play FF, which stinks... Not going to pay $40 for a new one either heh. Unless you pay for me.

Graphics: graphicly 10 was the best, but I still like the FF8 cutscenese better
Story: FF8 had the best story for me. Probably the most complicated and I managed to understand the whole story.
Characters: FF7 had the coolest characters. All of them had an interesting story.
Music: I liked all but 7 more than others. One Winged Angel is badass
Gameplay: any, all of them almost feels similar but different variations
Overall: Liked 7 the best, probably because it had the movie lol. If 8 had a movie too I'd be all over it.

I don't know why, but I thought the FF8 story blew. Really, where was the backstory to any of the main party members? Plus most of the characters didn't talk much or have distinct personalities, really. It was a shame because I loved everything else about FF8.

FF8
I Really think it had the best Item system.
The most helpful Summons till FFX
Junctioning Summons
Refining Items
Drawing Magic
Refining Magic!
Junctioning Magic!
A Boost option
the total customising of a GF(summon) was great...
ANYONE could use a summon(unlike FFX)
Anyone could draw magic then TRANSFER magic to others even if there not selectable as a party member.
Got PAID every so often; thank you SEED... got paid more if you made better desisions...like oppisite of student loans...
People didnt like the idea of the same level monsters...
the slow as hell schools...
I thought the ending was kinda lame, but the system was great.
FFV
Everyone could be anyclass and more classes the farther you go!
FFX
My friend and I agree THEE MOST addicting mini game ever; Blitzball.
Some ppl didnt like it due to not really getting it or thier the same level as you or they have to remake since the other guys got the good players.
all characters could get skills but not everyone could summon(real bummer)
but its also the reson why since they could fight FOR you.
Takes forever to do some quests like capturing all the monsters
leveling the Summons to even kill the things you make from that quest
getting all the characters around that map...
but the switching of characters? great idea
Character turn shown to us; great idea
and that jail bait rikku is more than enough reason.
FF tatics
one reason i screwed myself...
I leveled too fast before my skills and you cant fight or cure if your a frog or a stone. the same level syndrome of FF8.
But I will have to mention... Vandel Hearts; the first one.
a real Turn based stragety RPG; its old but premoted stragety...
came out before FF8.
I would really love to see the old FF5/6/tatics that I personally know, on a PSP.
perhaps even older ones if they could fit on that small of a disk...
c'mon Gameboy has pokemon; PSP should have FF...

Yeah, go and play them already. They've rereleased all of the older ones except for FF3 on the Playstation (and soon will release all of them including FF3 for the Gameboy), so you have no excuses.

FF3(NES) will be for the DS actually...

Most Overrated Final Fantasy of all time: FFVII
Best FF of all time: FFVIII
Seriously, what did 7 have that 8 didn't just plain do better? Better story, better graphics, better music (one of the game's strongest points IMO), better characters, better minigames (Triple Triad FTW!). About the only 50/50 would be on the battle system. The materia system was nicely flexible, and 8's leveling system could be easily manipulated if you knew what you were doing (Draw, run, only fight bosses).
Squall is a much stronger lead character. He's someone you can identify with. He has the same kinds of problems we all do, lack of self-esteem, can't trust others, and trying to figure out what love is. Cloud is just... insane, not too many people can identify with his MPD craziness.
Just because 7 was the first doesn't make it the best.

OK I agree with everyone who said that FFX has the best graphics (b/c it does), and I see everyones argument over FF7. - FF7 did have some of the best characters- and I absolutly LOVE that game... But for BEST FF game I would have to give it to FF3(SNES)! - hands down. Just try to remember everything that game gave us - The story line, espers, the colosseum, the game had 14 playable characters, most of the time you could bring whatever characters you wanted and most of the time it affected the story, or one of the side stories. You had Terra who was the main character and half esper, you had the whole sibling rivalry with Edgar and Sabin, Locke with his past, Celes and how she turned from the dark side, Cyan needed to overcome his deamons, you have the mysterious Shadow with his dog, Gau who just wanted to be a real boy, Setzer and his airships, and there were other characters too, including hidden characters such as GoGo. Not only were there so many characters but they each had their own unique skills - Blitz, Tools, Dance, Morph, Steal,Runic, etc. There were also the hidden weapons - Illuminator Sword, Air Ancor, Ultima Weapon. Sorry to be jumping all over the place but back to the stortyine, You start off not knowing whats happened to poor Terra, finily piece it her life and some of the other characters together, go to stop Kefka on the floating island (better wait for Shadow at the end or you'll loose him for the rest of the game), then the whole world is turned upside down and you have to start ur quest all over- INCREDIBLE! I think out all all the FF games FF3 has the best replay value. It just needs some better graphics.
Oh how could I forget - MOOGLES!!

I think that once FF hit PS... it went straight to hell. That whole 4 disc crap is bullshit. Then, why do there have to be so many movie/cut scenes... I didnt just pay $50 to watch a damn cartoon I want to play 100 hrs of RPG. Cut the anime out and add more content to the game. This game is so far away from what made it great... FF on the nintendo and FF 3 on the SNES are the two best, hands down. Less talk and more action. You all have forgotten what made this game great, the story and play, not the stupid cut scenes that suck up 90% of the space needed to make the game. The day of the 100+ hour RPG is dead. I still pull out FF on the nintendo from time to time just to mess around. Ive played some of the others, 7-9, and am happy that I didnt buy them. Even the ones coming out on the Gameboy are better than the PS ones. Thats sad.
|
Seems to me like cutscenes tell parts of the story too.

Seems to me the cutscenes are too damn long and suck up too much memory... Its not a fair trade... cool movie, less playtime... Im not paying for anime, I want to play damnit. If you want more cutscenes dont worry, those idiots will continue to make the game shorter and shorter just to put in more of those great scenes you love so much... I can follow the story through simple text, and action on screen. You didnt see movie scenes in FF 1 did you?
